Event Details:
Join us for a comprehensive session on the key legislative changes to Washington State’s estate tax that took effect in 2025. This timely program is designed to equip tax professionals with the knowledge and practical tools needed to effectively serve clients with Washington estate tax obligations.
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the increased filing threshold and exclusion amounts, tax rate increases, Qualified Family-Owned Business Interest (QFOBI) deduction increase, and the new spousal personal residence exclusion. We’ll also provide an overview of the Washington Department of Revenue’s e-filing tools and best practices, as well as filing a WA State estate tax return electronically vs paper. The session will wrap up with time for any questions attendees may have.
Speaker Bios:
Valerie Poe is the Estate Tax Manager with the Estate Tax section of the Audit division of the Department of Revenue. She has worked for the Department of Revenue for 3 years, starting with the Compliance division as a Revenue Agent, and has been in Estate Tax for 2 years. Valerie graduated with a degree in Accounting from Purdue University.
Julie Teichner is an Excise Tax Examiner with the Estate Tax section of the Audit division of the Department of Revenue, where she has been for the last two years. Julie has worked for the Department of Revenue for 4 years, starting as a Revenue Agent with the Compliance division. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration / HR Management from University of West Florida.
