Why I joined ASWA

To ASWA Members,

After eighteen years as a Business Office Manager, I had an opportunity to make a career change and decided to go back to school for an accounting degree. I was introduced to the ASWA Association by Martha Chamberlin as a student at Renton Technical College. Originally it was to be a stepping stone to a job, but what I found was much more; a diverse professional group allowing me to see the different avenues available in accounting.

From the first meeting I attended, I was impressed with the warm greetings, the professionalism and the dedication of the women I have met who volunteer to support this association. With each speaker I find a growing interest in the field of accounting and have learned the importance of personal growth. The willingness of every member to share details of their job and personal experiences is inspiring.

Originally I was considering healthcare auditing, but now I am open to other areas I had not considered.  From my past work experience, I also believe that professional associations are important for support and continued career growth.

I appreciate the commitment to support and to advance women in accounting that this association offers. It was an easy decision to join ASWA because of the professional connections, training and moral support.
